How To Properly And Respectfully Handle Your Flag
While you might not know it, there are several types of flags, such as national, state, local and personalized flags. For national flags, such as the American flag, there are established rules that everyone should abide by.
Whether you keep one flag pole out front for the American flag, or you have numerous poles with some other flags, the United States flag should always be higher up than every other flag, and it should not at any time touch the ground. In essence, the American flag needs to be the center point of any flag display.
Should you have some other flags aside from the United States flag, such as sports flags or flags from several other countries, then the American flag should generally be to the right. This holds true when you have numerous flagpoles, but if all your flags are on one flag pole, then your American flag should be the top. For locations that have many flags from different nations, ensure the other countries are at an equal height. This setup implies that we are at peace.
If you decide to display your flag in a window, rather than going through the trouble of purchasing flagpole hardware, poles, ornaments and such, then just make sure that the blue area of the American flag (also known as the union) appears like it is on the left if someone is looking at it from the outside.

Besides the national flag, there are various patterns for custom flags that you might pick for your company or local sports team. The companies that produce these types of flags usually can include your pattern into a banner, tear drop flag or even a flag for your car.
When it comes to flag etiquette, the main principles that apply are for the national or state flags. For custom flags, including the kinds you might use for your business, how you treat them is up to you. However, remember, the better you take care of your custom flags, the longer they can last and the better they will look.
