Anderson Parelli
Percheron + natual horsemanship programs?
Yeahh another question. Sorry guys!
Anyway, I wanted to try a natural horsemanship approach to training my soon to be Percheron gelding. Do you think this would be a good approach to a pushy horse or should I train him more intensely? If you do think it’s a good idea who would you recommend? Parelli…Clinton Anderson..someone else..? If not how would you suggest I go about training him?

Also, what type of bit would you suggest? He is somewhat hard in the mouth and doesn’t like to listen but I was honking a regular snaffle?
Any suggestions for which books/DVDs to get on natural horsemanship would also be highly appreciated
Well first off, Natural Horsemanship is a very good choice! I’ve ben using the Parelli method for years and love the results!
I would try using the Parelli method, and buy the DVDs from Parelli.com, OR since those may be kinda pricey, look for a good deal on craigslist or ebay for the level 1 program.
I think natural is a great choice too, because it will help you with the horse’s problems, as well as help you furthur your knowledge and skill.
If you do end of trying it, I warn you that it’s not always easy. It requires hard work and patience but if your willing, the reward will be great!
As for bits, I would wait for that because most natural horsemanship will focus on fixing the problem on the ground before riding. This doesn’t mean rhat you can’t ride, it just means that you may want to consider doing more groundwork than riding in the beginning. My grandpa has a horse that sounds like the one you will be working with. After using Parelli to deal with the problem (from the ground) and now she is calm and sweet. It’s an on going progress, but again, it’s worth it.
But yeah as said before, I would try for Parelli and I would look on sites like Ebay to get a good deal.
