Sweating is a natural part of the body's functions, helping to cool the body down when it becomes overheated. The problems with hyperhydrosis can start when the individual reaches the teen years, although some can start before that time. For some cases, the excessive sweating problem can become so bad that it is difficult to cope in life. Clothing can get stained, and it is also very embarrassing to shake hands with other people.
These sweating issues do not necessarily occur when there is something to start the perspiring. Although these individuals may increase their sweating when it is hot outside or when in high stress or embarrassing situations, they will usually perspire as well at other times, when average people would not sweat at all. There are treatment methods that are used to treat excessive sweating, and the simplest and common way is to use antiperspirants which normally contain aluminum chloride. Not only do these antiperspirants block any smell that may occur, but they also help to reduce the sweating and can be used on hands and feet as well. If used on the hands, it is good to use a gel form of it and to only use it on the palms of the hands so that the anti-perspirant does not inadvertently get into the mouth on a regular basis from the fingertips.
There are other treatments for perspiring as well, such as prescription strength antiperspirants, Iontohoresis, anticholinergics and botox. There are also surgical means to reduce the sweating problem but these are usually only used if all other methods have been tried without producing results.
