Go On A Road Trip Instead
Today, city breaks have been made easier with the increasing popularity of budget airlines. Nevertheless, we tend to forget all the things we could discover by going on a road trip. After indulging in some good food, you may want to take a stroll amongst the hidden cobbled streets of Lyon’s oldest area, Old Lyon. There are many narrow passages called traboule, which are accredited for helping prevent the city from complete German rule during World War II. Historically, traboule were used to transport clothes and textiles through Lyon and although many of them have been closed off, they remain an important part of Lyonnais culture.
It doesn’t stop here: soccer fans can watch the home team Les Gones at Stade de Gerland and art fanatics can visit the Musee des Beaux Arts near Terreaux. Regardless of your interests, Lyon has something for everybody.
Before leaving France’s third largest city, make sure you drive up Fourviere hill to see an incredible view of the whole city. While you are at the top of the hill, you can also visit the beautiful Basilica and Roman theatre.
