Riding Lessons And Trail Rides

She reached up to tuck her long, blond hair back under the cowboy hat as she stood in the windy ring. She stared down at the layer of dust on her brown boots. She wanted new black boots with gold inlaid patterns. She smiled as she contemplated how great they would look. But, alas, she could only afford the less costly brand.

She walked towards the gate of the ring to bring the little boy in for his riding lesson. He approached her eagerly and she put the reins over the small pinto’s head. She took Eric to the left side of the horse and went over the basic instructions. He listened closely as she helped him up on the horse’s back.

Eric’s mother watched from the gate. The blond turned and waved hello. Then she gave Eric her full attention for the next half hour. He learned to hold the reins in his left hand. She taught him how to neck rein and turn the horse using the reins. He tried it several times before he felt confident.

The first day she met Eric and his mother he signed up for a series of six riding lessons. They chatted a bit as little Eric looked at the horses. The mom mentioned an interest in horseback riding herself. She figured that was how to lose tummy fat. The young riding instructor laughed and said the mom didn’t look at all fat.

They scheduled a series of six riding lessons for Eric and signed for the credit card. They planned on riding the bridle paths together after the lessons were over. They could then go out on the bridle paths where you could ride unconfined by fences. There was a one hour or two hour trail ride.

Each trail ride included a canter into the rest stop and a brief five minutes sitting on the grass. The horses would not run away with young riders since they were used to stopping in the rest area.

Holding on to the horses reins, they would stretch out their legs before starting back to the stables. It was a pleasant time when they could talk about how much they loved horses and riding. They all seemed to enjoy the rest stop.

After Eric’s lessons were completed he was able to start, stop and turn the horse. He could mount up on his own. He understood how neck reining worked and how to move his weight in the saddle when he turned the horse. He was confident of his riding abilities and confident about trail riding. Next week they were going out on a trail ride. Eric’s mom jokingly said she would find out if horseback riding was how to reduce tummy fat.
