Using Vinegar On A Leather Bridle?
I have a specialty hackamore bridle that has been sitting in a shed for a few years. I am wanting to get rid of the rust off the metal parts that can’t be removed. I know white vinegar is great for getting off rust but it needs to be soaked in it over night. I would like to know will the vinegar ruin the leather? The metal parts are all handmade and decorative so could not be replaced. I am also going to dye the leather black once I have removed the rust.
Vinegar is a weak acid. Letting leather soak in it can’t be good for it. I would think it would dry it out and make it crack. There are polishes that are specially made for bits that would cost you a lot less than getting the bridle repaired. That hackamore sounds beautiful! Good luck!
