Chaps Fringe
What kind of apparel do I need for open western classes? I don’t have a ton of money for an outfit!?
I was wondering the minimum of what kind of western apparel I need to show in the county open shows. I have never show so I am clueless, lol! I don’t want to spend $500 just for an outfit I will use3 times, and might never use again(I am more into English).
The reason I am going western is my horse i gaited, so I think that will look more natural the me posting over his gait for english.
Are the fringed chaps required? If not, what can I substitute for them? I am going to look for used stuff but I don’t know if I will find it.

lol i don;t know if you have them but “Lamles Western Wear and Tack” (its a big chain store at least up here in Canada =P) was my live-saver when i first started showing. http://www.lammles.com/main.php
i was in the same situation but i got an outfit for less than $100, and still did fairly well in the shows (placed in most of my classes :] ) so that proves that its not necessarily always the people who flaunt their money, that win.
if you are trying to save money, don’t get chaps, you don’t need them and they are really expensive to buy.
all you really need (if you aren’t going to be showing that often) is:

-jeans~ (i definitely recommend black if you are not going to have chaps) i showed in wranglers, they were fine….. i think pretty much any black once again ‘western’ jean will be fine…… just make sure you can ride in them (ie NO SKINNY JEANS lol i actually went to a show and someone was showing in them [lets just say they were DQ from one class and got told to get proper attire] and i don’t think that you would want that to happen to you LOLZ) just a pair like this should be fine http://www.nungar.com.au/catalog/images/0936WBKwashedblack36.jpg
-hat/helmet~ it depends on the show, if you have to wear a helmet in the ring, do it, but if it isn’t mandatory, you don’t have to. if you decide to wear a helmet instead because you feel more comfortable, just remember that they can’t dock you marks for wearing one (at least i can’t imagine that they would). if you are going to wear a hat, i recommend a black(usually felt) one like this http://western-wear-store.com/images/cs_del_rio_0409.jpg or ‘straw’ hat like this http://www.petestown.com/images/73123_LRG.jpg either one will work, i just usually go for the one that matches my outfit the best
-belt~ you usually need to have one, but it doesn’t have to be very blinged out (http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/c/0/0/5b/b/AAAADDpi9LcAAAAAAFu5BA.jpg) but it can ’cause i have also seen people ride enlglish (showing) with that style of belt too (if you want one for english too, you can wear it for both disciplines) but you can also show with a plain leather belt, just make sure it has a ‘western’ buckle on it (google “western belt buckles” to see some) just make sure it is something like http://www.rawhidestudios.com/buckles/c5-western-rose.jpg or http://www.dakotaskabin.com/61001.jpg, not something like http://www.myhiphopbling.com/media/LED-BELT-Buckle-147.jpg or (check the source lol, it wouldn’t let me put all of the links in the answer so i just moved it down there)
