Limitations After Rotator Cuff Surgery
You have to be aware that even though you experience lesser pain few weeks post surgery, restricted movement of your body parts especially your arm can be quite severe; thus you have to have knowledge on what restrictions after rotator cuff surgery apply.
Below is a rough time plan on when do most patients are able to go back to their regular schedule and routine which includes extending hands to the stirring wheel while driving a car or lifting arm above your head to comb your hair. Remember though that you may differ on specific recovery time from the times that will be given.
Right After Your Surgery:
For the first couple of weeks, you have to do the first restriction during rotator cuff surgery recovery. Once you have undergone a surgery, you have to give time for your tendons to heal themselves and re-attach and anchor itself to the bone properly. This can only be done efficiently by not keeping your arm from moving.
6 Weeks Post Surgery:
The use of sling for 6 weeks may be good for your arm to aid you in restricting the movement of your arm and shoulder. Also, driving will really be prohibited for you as this will exert too much pressure and strain on the rotator cuff.
12 Weeks after Surgery:
The 12th week of your post surgery may let you lift your arm slowly above your head. You should not do this if your arm has not yet fully recovered. The rotator cuff is best to keep your upper arm in place in relation to your shoulder while doing this.
The rotator cuff is usually repaired slowly at this stage. With this, you are able to slowly and gently do movements especially on rehabilitations and strengthening activities.
6-12 Months Following Surgery:
Oftentimes, most of the patients who had a rotator cuff surgery are already fully-recovered from the repair after six to twelve months. Though, taking note that there had been a severe tear or the level of surgery is more grave, then it may take a little longer for you to recover; given the fact that your body has to work on healing a larger injury.

Having rotator cuff exercises may be the best tool that you should have to aid you in getting back to your normal routine. Exercises that are specifically arranged to stretch and normalize the motion of your rotator cuff are helpful especially in the process of making it more robust group of muscles –letting you experience more years of fun and leisure doing your sports activities.
Working on these exercises need you to do it properly just like any other exercise so that you’ll not hurt yourself and receive the utmost benefit out of the time that you have given on performing it. Although, there is this humiliating part for the rotator cuff exercises that a lot of people think of. It may seem to be a waste of time at the first glance since it’s like a more complex stretches only.
But, just as how small things trick you, minute rotator cuff muscles may only need you to have less amount of weights but repetitively applied in very specific motions, so that you’ll be able to acquire how stretched and strengthened your muscle should be.
