A Brief Glimps At The History of Hats
You probably are not familar with the various names of all the different hat styles you see at the hat shops. While the world of fashion is naturally an evolving one, there are certain styles that seem enduring. Here we discuss the modern and classic styles of hat fashions.
Western style hats are a traditional favorite, not only for real cowboys on ranches. Fans of the country and western styles and music like to wear cowboy hats. Today this style is not the sole province of males; plenty of females can be seen wearing vibrant, imagine a red hat country style.
Top hats are also popular, and they are often worn for proms, weddings and other formal events. You are even starting to see females sporting top hats; however they typically feature floral decoration, lace or other decor.
The 1800s introduced the world to the sailor or boater hat. This style has a straight brim and is stiffly shaped, constructed of straw, adorned with a ribbon band and with a flat top. While it’s not as common as it once was, many children and women still wear it today.
The Derby hat, or the bowler, has a rounded brim and a low crown with turned up sides. Bowlers are typically constructed of stiff felt, dating back to its launch as a safeguard for horse riders’ vulnerable heads. Modern women and children still enjoy wearing this hat.
Fedora styles, initially designed for gentlemen, are currently fashionable with gals too. Modern women wear fedoras plain or ornately decorated with bows, ribbons, or tule. Men also wear fedoras, but usually don’t decorate them.
An old time favorite is the baseball hat. These are nearly a universal staple due to their versatility and wide array of options as far as color, design and so on.
Regardless of your look, there is hat out there for you to enjoy. Whether you’re going for a look that is classic or informal, or even if you only want to cover up messy hair – hats are always a great option.
