Showmanship at Halter Help…..My horse won’t stand still!?
My horse is a very good pattern horse in showmanship. However, when we have to stand in the lineup, he gets really anxious. He will stand still for a little while, but eventually, he begins to move away from me. I usually lead him in a small circle and set him up again, but he will just repeat the process. How can I get him to stand still? I practice with him every day, and he works perfectly at home. Help!
I would lunge him a little bit before the show and take a little of the edge off of him. If you have to take him to a little 4-H show and pet him while he’s in line, sometimes you have to blow a couple classes to make it better. Are you nervous when you are standing in the line up? Because horses can sense your nervousness and that can cause them to get fidgety also. Try to stay relaxed and calm while in the arena, lol eaiser said than done. Maybe that would help a bit.
