What is a Junior Working Cow Horse bit?
OK so I just bout a Junior Working Cowhorse bit for my horse so I know what it looks like and everything but what is it that specifically distinguishes it as a junior working cowhorse.
They can vary in details. But generally, they are double jointed snaffles that have medium length purchases and fairly short shanks. This creates mild leverage on the mouth, and creates a short of “twisting” motion of the bit. These can be great bits when used correctly. Many people use ones with twisted mouth pieces, which can be harmful if used in heavy hands. They create very clear cut signals, but once again, only in the right hands. These bits can be used plow (pull) reining or neck reining. But like I said, the mouthpieces vary, but it’s the purchase and the shank that distinguish it from other snaffle bits.
All in all, it’s a versatile bit that is useful in a variety of western riding.
