What can a supermarket chain physically do to someone banned from their store?

5 years ago, my son was sacked by a leading supermarket chain, and banned fom their property. Ok he was at fault, but last week he found that he needed to return to collect soething from their office but was told over the phone that he is banned. I am curious as to what can they legally do to stop him entering the store?

The store management can call the Police and have him arrested for Trespassing.
