How to I clear up Green Water in a fish tank?
I have a 10 Gallon tank and I have removed 90% of the WATER on two occasions and Have a Filter going 24 Hrs a DAY BUT CAN’T GET RIDE OF THE CLOUDYNESS WHICH IS A LITE COLORED GREEN WHEN I REMONVE IT.
Green water is usually caused by either excess sunlight, over stocking or over feeding (which causes excess nutrients). A 10g is a pretty small tank, what do you have stocked in there? See if you can eliminate one, if not all, of those causes first.
Doing big water changes is going to do more harm than good, do a 50% water change maximum. Doing larger ones may upset the bacteria colony in your filter, which could lead to further cloudy water and the water chemistry levels fluctuating which could harm your fish.
Do NOT be tempted to use chemicals or animals to try and solve this, it won’t work and will only be attacking the symptom, not the cause, of the algae bloom.
