Over 2,000 crape myrtles edge McKinney’s public roadways with exceptional plantings along Virginia Parkway, Eldorado Parkway, U.S. Hwy. 380 and all through the Stonebridge Ranch development. Working with the city, the Crape Myrtle Foundation will release the World Collection of Crape Myrtles, a planting that will comprise every variety of crape myrtles in McKinney.
Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary features more than four miles of hiking trails, a two acre native garden, animals and indoor and outdoor permanent and temporary exhibits. This is a great way to spend the day outside to take pleasure in the beautiful native plants, calm environment and wonderful exhibits and collections.
Lavon Lake is proudly located on the East Fork of the Trinity River. The lake is roughly 21,400 acres in size, the deepest portion of the lake is almost 38 feet deep. There are three launch sites based at Tickey Creek Park, Little Ridge Park and Lavonia Park. Tickey Creek Park is a great launch site and the lake presents some outstanding sailing. There is a public beach on the south region of the point and an isolated clearing of grass and trees on the east side of the point. There are a couple of convenience stores and gas stations in this area as well.
Staying in a bed and breakfast on your trip is a terrific approach to experience a little history and feel transported to an alternative, simpler time. Inn owners are usually appreciative of your patronage and are more than pleased to inform you of the best deals in town.
There are three public golf courses and four private golf courses in McKinney. The interest for golf is fairly evident in the wide-ranging landscape of McKinney City. The Golf Club at McKinney offers an 18 hole course with a challenging 6,980 yards of golf from the longest tees and has 50 tees driving range. Eldorado Golf Course has 25 tees driving range and also an 18 hole course. Eldorado Golf Course offers a fitness and kids club with on-site baby sitting area that accepts children ages 3 months to 12 years old.
McKinney, Texas is a wonderful way to spend a long weekend. The people are friendly, the lodgings are lovely, and the town is full of beautiful parks and walking paths.
