It is important for both you and your horse that you saddle up properly. For one, each horse is different. There are horses with very sensitive backs. These cannot be ridden for long unless you use the perfect saddle and numnah for them. The saddle has to be a perfect fit. For these reasons you need the best fitting saddlepads or numnahs. You can of course get the finest numnahs made of the best quality British wool. These saddlepads come in large varieties. Because of the excellent quality of the wool used the fit is perfect thereby giving the horse the best protection against pain. There are special numnahs that are designed specifically for use when you have to ride the horse for unusually long periods and also for horses that have extremely sensitive backs.
The numnahs are classified in terms of the styles and sizes besides color. The styles normally found are for GP, Dressage or DR and WH or Working Hunter. The saddlepads come in small, medium and large sizes besides the extra large size. You’ll find the numnahs in generally four colors that are white, black, gray and brown. Besides this the standard of manufacture on the numnahs could be different. You may get a numnah that’s in self-colored wool and quilts in half wool such that the sensitive pressure points are completely covered by the lining of wool thereby providing extra comfort to the horse. The design of the numnahs is always towards horses that may or may not have a high wither. These are finely crafted and light in weight. It’s ensured that the rider’s legs are always in close contact with the horse.
Half numnahs can also be ordered. These have wool on both the sides thereby ensuring not only excellent leg contact with the horse but also the best cushioning over the pressure points as well. The half numnahs also help reduce the pressure of the saddle. This makes the ride that much more comfortable especially in cases where the horse has an extra sensitive back. You can also buy light wither single wool half numnahs that may be used on their own.
