are grackle nose bands really that harsh?
hi,
i have a mexican nose bands on my horse and i wounded how harsh they were because this girl at my stables keeps coming up to me and saying “why have u got a grackle nose band on him ? They are really harsh because the Metal ring pushes into there cheek and hurts them !” is she right ? i heard they were to stop restricting the breathing and stop them crossing there jaw .
i thought they were actually kinder for the horse . so are they really that harsh?

It is all down to fit and why you use one.
They prevent the horse evading the bit by opening his mouth and should be fitted so they don’t rub.
If it is rubbing it needs adjusting but if you don’t need one why not use a cavesson instead?
