Why People Appreciate Animal Portraiture
Gift giving always has some risks involved. Normally you need for time to pass until you know if they liked the gift or not. There is more pressure when the recipient is no other then the president of the US. Bringing her gift with her, she even had to sign for a visitor’s pass prior to going in. It is her animal portraits that got people into her art and she now lives in Old National Pike with her family. The business came about after learning about art and taking portrait lesson and merging the two things that she loves animals and portraiture. The business she has set up is now one big money making business for her since she has the drive for what she does.
With her pastels she draws the animals with the pictures that she has taken or that the owners have taken. Copying show photos at times is what she does to make horse portraits. Since she has made portraits of various animals already, she shares that she falls in love with them each time. Though she mostly does portraits of furry animals, she is open to working with fishes and even turtles using oil paints. She can make an animal look younger, or take away a defect or affliction, like eye disease.
Having written the president’s wife for a copy of a photo of Little Man, she had this idea for a few months now. About six weeks later, she received a reply from the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence, along with some color publicity stills of the President with the horse. It was hard for her to work with the pictures that were sent to her. Normally part of her job was to meet the animal personally and get to know they and also take note of color and other things as a picture us not enough. Amid working on the project, Little Man had passed. Her wish is that the portrait will be appreciated by the president more. She continued with the portrait anyway, began the work and divided it roughly into four stages. Wanting to make an outline that displayed the dark, medium and light shadow tones, she used pastel and this was the first thing she did. For blending the color after putting it in, she used her fingers.
Making the background was next and for Little Man it was light blue. It is important to always make the portrait look real. It took her the most time to make the portrait as close to reality as possible.
Creating a portrait of Little Man was due to her love for animals. Given that she loves horses too, she has one which is in Poolesville. The family menagerie includes a cat, a dog and a goat. She has a lot of happiness as all gift givers do for having given the president her work.
