Recently started birth control – experiencing calf pain – Possible blood clot?
Hello, I’m looking for some helpful feedback. I started birth control (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo) 15 days ago to help regulate my cycle. One week ago I started experiencing a dull ache in my right calf. The pain has become worse and I now feel discomfort when I walk. It feels tight (like a sore muscle) and when I flex my foot upwards the pain worsens. After standing at a concert this weekend my calf muscle began to ache and twitch. I have not done any strenuous activity or worked out my calf muscles (and it is only my right calf). I am concerned because blood clots are a side effect of taking birth control. However, I do not have any redness or swelling. Should I consult with a doctor on this issue?
Having had 3 DVT’s ( or blood clots ) in my right leg, I would say if you are having this much pain you should definitely see a doctor. Most will say your skin will be hot to the touch or your leg will swell, but my leg never did, the only symptom I ever had was pain…. If your doctor doesn’t send you for a doppler ultrasound to check your leg, and you still feel a lot of pain, you might try a different doctor. Follow what your gut tells you to do. My doctor blew me off with my first clot until I had a Pulmonary Embolism, which is when the blood clot went to my lungs. I should of pushed more and made them take me serious, fight for them to take you serious.
