Pad Purple
wither pad help pleasee?
OK,
so i recently got a fleece saddle pad that is purple and has flowers.
everytime i ride, there is ALWAYS a sheepskin or fleece white pad over it.
is this pad ” wither pad” ALWAYS necessary for English jumping? because it seems like my riding school is the only place that uses one.
Please help, because i would like to buy one with i have to.
Also whats the difference of a half and full wither pad?

its cheap- and its the kind my barn uses and its does the job 
It’s hard to tell without a pic. I use a fleece/felt wither pad, but it’s big enough and thick enough to also relieve back pressure and helps to absorb shock when jumping. I would suggest buying one especially if you are jumping. I found mine on www.doversaddlery.com. I paid about $30 for it. It’s not top of the line, but it does the job and will last me for a long time. I don’t ride every day, so it suits me fine. I believe it was made by Dover. Even if you have a perfect fitting saddle, you should still use one in practice. If I’m doing light riding, I use a baby pad with my white show pad on top.
I forgot to add that you can’t show with one. Most rated circuits like the plain white fleece pad. My trainer actually requires them in practice sessions. Our mission is to protect the horse’s back from potential problems, not create them. I love my Dover pad. It’s not as pretty as the Mattes collection, but it works well. I only train 3 days a week, so it’s perfect for a person like me. I think you would be happy with the Dover pad. It actually helps my back as well. Those sitting trots are brutal sometimes!
