Which charatcer in the Iliad represents war and which one represents peace?
I hope someone can help me for this :
The Iliad is said to concern the “…two poles of the human condition, war and peace.” The shield of Achilles symbolically demonstrates these polar opposites, as do the two, main characters of the epic. In a paragraph, explain which one of the two characters is representative of the term war and which is representative of the term peace. Further, explain what there is in the poem which makes you believe them to be so by providing examples.
Much of what the previous post said is true but there is a bit more to say.
There are no “two poles” about war and peace in the Iliad. What the tale is really about is not even the Trojan War. That is a setting against which the drama of Achilles’ anger is played out with its consequences; the death of Patroclus. In this aspect hubris plays a part.
To say that the famous Shield of Achilles [Book 18] is just about war and peace greatly reduces what it is as a symbol. It is about life in general with all its contrasts and cycles.
