Servo motors, How do they work internally?
im doing this project in class where im trying to figure out how a servo motor runs. me not knowing a thing of engineering or of rcs am extremely confused. here are some of my questions
is there a batterie within the case or is the batterie located somewhere else?
what is the gear part that jutts out from the top do? what significance does it have to an rc?
if the big round thing inside the case isnt a batterie what is it? what does it do?
how does having a chip help the motor in any way?
the type of motor is a standard HS-422 made by hitec. its supposidly the best servo moter around (though i have no idea why). if you can answer even just one question i will be gravely indebted to you. thank you in advance
A servo is remotely powered. The “gear” like structure you refer to is called the horn and it rotates when commanded by the control electronics. It is typically connected with mechanical linkages to a throttle or steering or flaps or whatever you want actuated (moved). The big round thing is no doubt a DC electric motor. The motor has a small gear on its shaft which connects to torque multiplying, speed reducing gearing which in turn rotates the horn. The chip converts the control signal into on, off, forward or reverse power that operates the motor.
