When selecting flooring for your home there are some points to consider you must factor into your decision before making your selection.
Wood Species – Woods have a range of grain patterns that can create different looks like ad-hoc, rustic, country or traditional. For example, oak wood has an especially bold looking grain that’s associated with an ad hoc or country setting where birch and maple are far more refined grains that lean toward the traditional setting.
Shade – Here is where you want to choose whether you need a dark, medium or light hue for your home’s floors. FYI : Darker woods are better for larger spaces as much like dark wall paint, it will make the room appear smaller whereas lighter or natural stains can give a room a larger appearance.
Sheen – You also must consider the gloss you want. For instance, you can choose high, satin or semi-gloss floor finish.
Edge – This means whether the perimeters of the planks are full or micro beveled or square for a flush, smooth look. The difference here is that with square flush edges you get an elegant look and beveled edges add dimension.
Plank Width – Simply put, narrower planks are far more sophisticated looking like you would use in a formal dining room and wider planks are more casual that would fit right in with a country style kitchen.
Other concerns include plank thickness, trim and grade level. The grade level will depend on where you plan to have the floor installed.
The majority of the time homeowners using this sort of floor also add decorative area rugs to improve the appearance of their wooden flooring and provide a softer and hotter place to walk. These are usually strategically placed dependent on the traffic area and whether it’s's for ornamental use only.
