When To Make A Black Quilt
When it comes to quilting, certain colours can have certain connotations that you might need to think about the next time you’re intending to make a quilt. As an example, in the interior design world, black creates grounding with the overall feeling of space.
Sadly, that is not the case when black is utilized on a quilt. A black quilt actually represents desolation, mourning and death. But does that mean it shouldnt be used-on the contrary. Everybody experiences some form of mourning or loss of a friend at sometime in their lives and using black as the quilt theme could be a way create a repeated reminder.
Here are some ways to use black with other colours in your quilt design.
Black and Yellow
a way of using black on a quilt could be to outline other colours that bring happiness-such as yellow. Yellow can represent the sunlight. Pairing black with yellow could mean that you are recollecting the good memories of a friend or relation that was lost.
Black and Blue
Blue is a calming colour that represents the sky and water. A blue and black quilt could say that even though you are dealing with mourning, the person who passed away is in a peaceful place now.
Black and Orange
Splash in a small amount of orange to bring out the feeling of security. Brown is typically not recommended as it could be a little depressing, but do not be afraid to use it in tiny doses as it brings out natural feelings, trust and security.
Black and Red
Beware if you plan to use red as it will certainly have an impact. Naturally, red is a powerful color representing, love, fire, fury and passion. if you have experienced the loss of somebody, red could actually represent them and black will show that they have passed in a red and black quilt.
Black and Purple
Using the colours mentioned above will make a beautiful showcase of quilts. This next colour can be displayed with the greatest sophistication, purple. That’s right purple! It represents wealth, royalty, higher class. It could also mean love, unhappiness and knowledge.
It is totally over to you if you prefer to use a solid black as the theme. you might even spruce it up with detailed threading like small squared thread work. Another new and modern way to use black is by also incorporate small amounts of white.
Black and White
Just black and white. White is a pure colour and when matched up with black will ground your room’s space. A patchwork quilt will create interest, color and meaning, so play it up and don’t hold back when you are deciding on what colors to use. What matters is how it makes your feel.
