Is Indy car racing a moribund sport in North America?
Pertaining to open-wheel racing, have you noticed a steady decline in interest? Will top-league, professional open-wheel racing survive in the hemisphere? NASCAR seems to hold the pinnacle of national attention but I sure miss CART and CHAMPCAR. I liked the road and street-courses, unlike the perpetual oval of Indycar. Will GrandPrix style open wheel racing survive? Do you like this format of racing?
It is hard to believe that ONE single person has destroyed the entire sport of open wheeled racing in America because he wanted control.
Tony George took the greatest race in the world – and made it the 3rd most popular race of Memorial Day weekend. The Indy500 used to be sell out the day tickets went on sale – not there’s acres of empty grandstands.
If he wouldn’t have devalued the sport – open wheeled racing would probably still be OK.
CART was awesome. REAL cars, REAL drivers. Champ Car was kind of like CART Lite – but still waaaaay better than the IRL.
Road America is probably one of the best circuits in the world. But there is not a series worthy of running on it (other than ALMS).
Now the IRL will be on Versus. HAhahahahahaha. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer azzhat than Tony George.
