Nba- East Take Revenge And Beat The West In All-Star Game
The East beat the West in this year’s All-Star game. The combination of guard Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and forward Chris Bosh pushed the Eastern Conference ahead of the Western in the 59th All-Star game last Sunday night in Dallas, Texas, with a score of 141-139 .
With great basketball, a close game, and the highest attendance record in the history of the NBA – 108,713 spectators – the All-Stars couldn’t have been better. Wade was selected as the game’s MVP after finishing with 28 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds, as well as converting several fantasy plays with Olympic stars James (Cavaliers) and Dwight Howard (Magic).
The first quarter started at a slow tempo for both teams. Dirk Nowitzki first opened the scoreboard. In the first minutes, the West had a 6-0 lead, but a three-pointer from James helped close the score.
The tone of the first 12 minutes was more reminiscent of a regular-season game than an All-Star. The parity was the protagonist. But with only 3 minutes in the first quarter, the Eastern Conference took a four-point lead, 29-25. The lead wasn’t challenged at the end of the first quarter, when the scoreboard showed 37-34. Carmelo Anthony was the most important figure in the first, scoring 13 points for the East; James was just behind with 11 points.
The acrobatics were reserved for the last three quarters. The circus was inaugurated with a great dunk from Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams, along with several spectacular assists. In response to Williams, Wade appeared for the East, and with help from James, created several air ups to entertain the fans. It was then when the Miami guard delivered several balls to his teammates, particularly to James, who took Wade’s passes to dunk several times.
The parity continued in this quarter, but the East managed to dominate with a seven-point lead, finishing the first half with a score of 76-69.
Beginning in the third quarter, the East expanded its lead to 13 points. But the contribution of Denver Nuggets point guard Chancey Billups, who added timely shots from outside the three-point line, kept the game close for the Western Conference. In the end, Billups added 17 points and averaged 62% from the three-point line.
But the show didn’t end there: Howard, Wade, James, and Chris Bosh astonished the audience with spectacular plays from every angle of the zone to end the third quarter with three-pointers from Paul Pierce and Kevin Durant, finishing at 118-109 in favor of the East.
The West was able to close the gap in the fourth, thanks again to more timely three-pointers from Billups. The Conferences were even tied twice, first with 6:40 left, 124-124, and next after a shot from Billups with 1:05, tying the game 137-137.
But Deron Williams committed a foul, a horrible mistake that allowed the East to take possession with 12 seconds left. Wade made two free throws and put the score 139-137. With just seven seconds left in the game, Bosh added several free throws, while Carmelo Anthony missed a three-pointer with five seconds left. With this final shot, the game ended in favor of the East, 141-139.
The best scorers for the East were Dwayne Wade with 28 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds; Lebron James with 25 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds; Chris Bosh with 23 points and 10 rebounds; Dwight Howard with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks; and ultimately Joe Johnson with 10 points. For the West the best scorers were Carmelo Anthony with 27 points and 10 rebounds; Dirk Nowitzki with 22 points and 4 rebounds; Chauncey Billups with 17 points and 5 assists; Kevin Durant with 15 points and 5 rebounds; Deron Williams with 14 points and 6 assists; Pau Gasol with 13 points and 6 rebounds; and finally Amare Stoudemire with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
