Experience A Relaxing Vacation Along The Texas Shoreline
Found on the Texas Gulf Coast inside Aransas County, Rockport is a tiny town of no more than 8,000 folks that offers a more laid-back beach vacation for people with children not to mention inexpensive vacation rentals and of course quaint, Rockport romantic travel inns. Actually, Rockport seashores are acknowledged as being among our nation’s cleanest.
Along with lower-priced Rockport beach rentals and vacation homes, the area is home to a ton of attractions as well as events during the year.
Begin with the Rockport Heritage District with its fine examples of historic architecture dating back to the nineteenth century as well as nearby Fulton Mansion. The latter is known as a fine illustration of the French Second Empire style of homebuilding that was popular at the time of its construction around the 1870s. Built by George and Harriet Fulton, the mansion was remarkably modern for its era, showcasing some of the latest in 19th Century equipment. Since 1976, the mansion has been the property of the Texas Historical Commission, which operates the mansion as a museum open to the community and supported by donations. Meanwhile, the Rockport Heritage District provides distinctive shopping experiences in equally unique retail businesses housed within the town’s Victorian-era buildings.
The Allegro Yachting marina is an alternative popular draw for Rockport guests. Convenient to Rockport beach rentals, it is where yacht owners keep their ships tied up – and the place to go if you are setting up a deep-sea fishing trip. During July, it is the base for two deep-sea fishing tournaments, one of which is geared toward women anglers; B.O.S.S, or the Babes OffShore Spectacular is held annually in early July. Then again, this is only one of two women’s deep-sea tournaments; another one takes place in mid-May, which is the Babes on the Bay, sponsored by the Aransas Bay Chapter of the CCA. Meanwhile, the region’s foremost event, the Rockport Offshore Challenge, takes place in early July. Nature lovers and birdwatching fans should like to see the close by Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Over the winter, this is often home to a large population of whooping cranes; excursions are provided by local operators. Additional prime birdwatching areas include the Connie Hagar Refuge and also the Aransas Woods, both of which are preserved through local non-profit organizations just like the Aransas Bird and Nature Club.
These organizations also host an original yearly event, the Hummer and Birding Expo. This is a tour of neighborhood estates whose owners have feeders to attract migrating hummingbirds.
Other events include the yearly Festival of Wines, showcasing the very best of regional vintages along with food and entertainment, the Seafair, a festival of the area’s maritime heritage, and then the Fiesta de la Playa, or Celebration of the Beach, held on Labor Day Weekend. There is a big, fun-filled event held every month of the year at Rockport, a gem on the Texas Gulf Coast.
