White Eye Bumps – What Are They?
People are embarrassed by the white eye bumps. They think they are warts or some other kind of contagious infection. They are often confused with whiteheads since the tiny cysts do resemble whiteheads.
They are usually present on the upper eyelids and on the skin around the eyes.
What Causes the Bumps?
There are several causes. Basically, what you have is clogged pores; the same thing that would cause a pimple.
In this case, the pores are clogged with pieces of dead skin cells that have not been sloughed off. However, exfoliation, which is normally recommended for removing dead skin cells, can actually make the problem worse. In some cases, exfoliation is the underlying cause, but not usually when the eyelids are affected.
Any trauma to the skin can cause milia to form. Sunburn, for example, is sometimes the underlying cause.
What Are the Solutions?
First, you should avoid makeup and other skincare products that contribute to clogged pores. Those containing mineral oil, petrolatum and paraffin are among the most common.
Second, you should always treat your skin gently and protect it from burning. It is particularly important to protect the area around the eyes. The skin on the eyes is thinner than anywhere else on the face. That makes it more delicate.
Third, you should use a good face cream and a nourishing eye serum that speed the cell turnover rate. As new cells work their way to the surface, they should eventually push the clog out of the way.
