Wither Relief Pads..?
When I bought my horse I knew he had huge withers, so I got a wither relief pad.

And although it does the job well it is long so when I show with a shaped pad next season it won’t look to pretty. I know theres alot of half pads and everything out there but I’ve never used them I want to go to a few tack shops looking for something to use when I show so what are some other options? My saddle sits pretty high so if I don’t have the option of anything else I can show without anything since it will only be a few minutes but I would rather not
As long as only the white fleecy part of the wither relief pad shows and not the grey part, I’d go ahead and show in it. Your horse will definately not perform at his best if the saddle is putting pressure on his withers.
I’m assuming you’re showing in hunters. If so, it’s become pretty common to see people showing in ONLY a half pad with nothing else underneath it. So that might be an option for you. Put your wither relief pad directly on his back and the saddle on top. Or I have seen wither relief pads that are foam inside and all white fleece outside. It may look nicer, but I think the wool felt in the one you have provides more cushioning than the foam. It would be fine for just in the show ring though.
